“I wanted to let you know we just finished your complete online course (part 1 and 2), with one week to go before our due date, and we've found it to be the #1 most valuable investment of our journey so far! We feel so equipped and calm and excited (which is the opposite of how we felt before we did the course) and cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and for being who you are! We have loved your keep-it-simple philosophy, your humor, your honesty and your authenticity, and we have learned SO much. We will recommend this course to everyone we know. Thank you thank you thank you!!!”
“I found Birth Matters to be a welcoming support group that demystified the myths of labor. Lisa empowered me with the knowledge/direction I needed to brace myself/us for the wonderful life moment. As an instructor, Lisa also creates a safe space to learn more about what your partner will experience, while acknowledging participants from diverse backgrounds and injecting evidence based information that will help you both make informed choices with doctors, doulas and your extended support/health network. I look forward to keeping in touch with our cohort, and Lisa. I have a feeling it'll only get better from here! Highly recommend!”
“Lisa offers a WEALTH of information. As expecting new parents, we are excited, scared, clueless, and open to learning. This class was perfect! We enjoyed the class size and the welcoming atmosphere. Lisa made us feel as though no question was too dumb to ask and she is extremely genuine and non judgmental. The class was also super inclusive addressing people of color and men/partners. Another thing that really impressed me was that she continues to educate herself and is very involved in the birth community making her aware of the latest trends and outdated practices. Totally worth the investment!”
“We just finished Lisa's course and could not be happier with how everything went. We were a little curious as to how it would work out with the Zoom format, but the class was highly interactive and the experience overall was amazing. The wealth of knowledge provided through this class (and all of the reference materials as well) went above and beyond. Lisa was super attentive and responsive to any questions or concerns we had. The birth classes were definitely something we ended up looking forward to every weekend. Lisa definitely equipped us with the tools and knowledge to approach our experience with more confidence and a more enthusiastic vibe. I highly recommend this class to anyone looking to educate themselves and take part in something really fantastic before giving birth!”
“Lisa's birth class was incredibly informative, balanced, and thoughtful. She has an incredible amount of knowledge and insight to help prepare all first time parents (as best as they can be) for birth and the fourth trimester - what to expect and how to tackle a variety of situations - all with evidence based information. She also does a fantastic job of fostering a community (which is very difficult during a pandemic/zoom class), and we feel grateful to have her as a resource prenatally and postpartum!”
“Dan and I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful experience in your class. We feel so much more prepared for labor, delivery, and postpartum. We were so impressed with how you kept the energy and enthusiasm high through the Zoom format and presented information in a clear and engaging manner. Dan found it really refreshing to get a perspective on things that was different from what he learned in med school on his brief OB rotation. We really appreciate how you give people the tools and information to be able to advocate for themselves in what can be such a fast-paced medical environment...Your passion for helping families is so evident and is really inspiring.”
“Do this course! No matter how informed you think you are, this course will prove otherwise. Lisa delivers the course in a fun, engaging, clear and concise way. Her approach to childbirth and self-advocacy, in whatever environment you chose to birth, will fully equip you. We were so sad when the three weeks were over! We feel so much more informed and prepared for whatever eventuality will arise. Best spent money! Thank you, Lisa. And if in any doubt, listen to the Birth Matters podcast and hear first-hand how Lisa's courses helped couples birth paths.”
“We took Lisa's class at Birth Matters and could not be happier with the experience. Lisa is a warm and exceptional teacher, having a wealth of knowledge which helped greatly on this daunting journey of becoming first time parents. The class was virtual and we felt instantly connected to her and the other pregnant couples, just as if we were in the same room. We left feeling doubly confident and empowered after each class. Love love love - the perfect birth class!”
“I can't recommend Lisa's class enough! From the moment I found Lisa's Birth Matters NYC website and reached out to her about picking which class my husband and I would take she impressed me. Not only was her website informative with many resources, she responded to my emails quickly and with thorough and thoughtful responses to my questions. The class supplied us with tons of information that we needed and had optional "homework" for those that wanted to learn more. Lisa has a wealth of knowledge about all things labor, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding and childcare. She keeps classes upbeat and engaging by making the class (even virtually) as hands on as possible with her props and exercises. Lisa is super funny and has a great personality and loves to tell funny stories to make the information come alive. We were always allowed to jump in and ask questions about anything that came up which was super helpful and allowed for some very useful discussions. Lisa responded to my questions via email before, during and after the class series was over and always gave very helpful and thoughtful answers full of resources and recommendations. We really enjoyed birth class and feel much more prepared to be parents in about 3 weeks! Thank you Lisa!”
“My husband and I loved being in Lisa's virtual class to prep for our new baby! Despite meeting via Zoom (due to COVID-19), the class felt very communal and interactive. We loved seeing the other couples in our class and feeling like we were all in it together. Lisa has a wealth of knowledge and will not only give you ample tools to follow along in class and get clear information, but will empower you with a treasure trove of resources that you can delve into on your own. Lisa is also warm, responsive, funny, and inclusive to all types of people and all preferences about childbirth (no epidural-shaming here!). I highly recommend Birth Matters NYC to get a solid foundation for labor and newborn care. Thanks, Lisa!”
“We did the virtual 3 day intensive and I just have to say -- Lisa does such a great job at virtual classes!! I'm so glad we went with Birth Matters. I felt so ready and informed for everything once my birth came. A friend who had a baby a year before me kept giving me tips that "no one told her about" but, alas, everything she tried to tell me I had already learned from Lisa's class and all the resources she shared!!! Besides being informed, the class was also very empowering and fun. Thank you so much Lisa!”
“Cannot recommend this class or Lisa enough. I searched for hours for a comprehensive birth+newborn virtual class and so happy with my decision. What I loved about this course is I was guaranteed to get Lisa as the instructor, who is knowledgeable, funny, warm, flexible and empowering (whereas with other courses, there's not always a guarantee who will be teaching you). She also has an incredible podcast so her virtual zoom class (due to Covid) was seamlessly and professionally set up. She had a good "radio" voice, microphone, great internet connection, great visuals, good lighting and organized class materials for following along virtually. In fact it was almost better doing the class virtually because I could stay in my pajamas on my couch! Lastly, I like her eye towards balance. She doesn't overwhelm you with information but provides a ton of priceless tips you couldn't get from any book. As well as gives you the option to read additional resources/videos. She also doesn't judge you for birthing in hospital or using medications, but leans more towards Ina Gaskin style of nature knows best and advocate for yourself! Overall class was perfection and you can do yourself a favor and stop searching now!”
“My husband and I took Lisa's class virtually, due to the COVID-19 citywide shutdown. I was initially skeptical when the class was converted to virtual. I've been taking other classes (yoga, etc) from providers moving offline to online, and the experience has been so-so. But Lisa's course, both content and virtual delivery, really blew me away! First, the content - Lisa is clearly super knowledgeable about all things birth and newborn care. Her course was chock full of useful information, as are the many supplemental materials and resources she provides. I went into the class feeling clueless and scared and came out feeling much more prepared! Second, the delivery - as mentioned, I was really surprised by how smoothly the class went virtually. Lisa set up a Zoom, and I could clearly see her, her presentation slides and the other participants in the class. Lisa herself was very articulate, has a great sense of humor, and honestly it was pretty fun and entertaining for my husband and I to participate in. The only thing we regret about the virtual experience is that we didn't get to try Lisa's home-baked cookies! I highly recommend Lisa's class, including the virtual experience!”
“My husband and I took the weekend intensive courses and wow, what a game-changer! So incredibly helpful and informative, it really taught us both so much about the pregnancy, labor/delivery, and post-partum. As much as I loved it, I think my husband loved it even more, as it explained so much of the “unknowns” to him, and with less mystery there is less fear, which leads to more preparation and calmness!
I found both her class and Lisa herself to be the perfect balance of natural/holistic and evidence-based, which is important to me. She helps explains different scenarios, whether you are “planning” a totally-natural home birth, or you’re already signed up for that epidural at the hospital; after all, the baby is going to do a lot of the deciding for you when “Labor Day” comes! Knowing all your options arms you with an arsenal for the big day. And if you can’t remember everything from class, don’t worry- she’ll send you printable files and plenty of videos, book recommendations, and even an amazon list to help you prepare!
Can’t say enough great things about this course. Highly recommend, worth the money ten fold. Thanks, Lisa!”
“During a time of crisis with Covid 19, my husband and I went through drastic changes in our lives just as I was about to begin my third trimester. At the same time, Lisa Taylor made the switch for our Birth Class to zoom, and her ability to facilitate personal relationships with the group alongside top tier education was a bright light through a trying time. Despite stress from the world situation, Lisa's constant presence and birth class was an uplifting and expansive experience that we looked forward to every wed & thursday night. The class absolutely helped us prepare for labor, but even more, was a steady guiding light through pregnancy and the Covid crisis. I know the knowledge my husband and I learned will be with us throughout our entire experience giving birth to our first child. I also truly admire Lisa as woman whose passion infuses her skill and expertise - a true heartfelt, master teacher!”
“I can't say enough good things about Lisa and her class. As a first time parent there are so many things to consider especially at a time like this. Because of the Pandemic our class (which came extremely highly recommended by other parent in our neighborhood and other birth workers who we interviewed with) was held virtually. Although it would have been nice to meet other new parents and get to meet Lisa in the flesh her virtual accommodations were handled so gracefully. My wife and I are such huge fans of Lisa, her energy, her spirit and the education she provides. This is top tier, cream of the crop birth education at its finest and I can not recommend it highly enough. I give it 10 stars!”
“My husband and I just finished a virtual (zoom) birthing class with Lisa. It was the intensive 3 day on weekends. Originally, when we found out it would have to be virtual due to COVID-19, we thought we would not like it that much. But we were wrong! The class was not only informative but easy to follow, fun and interesting! Lisa is an awesome instructor, with a friendly, down to earth demeanor that makes it sooooo much more pleasant and easy to learn this indispensable information! We really enjoyed the partner massage/labor support techniques which were very doable and helped me relieve some pain right away! We also enjoyed all the baby care information, which we felt demystified some things . Most importantly though, we overall truly feel much less fearful and worried about the birthing process!!! Lisa helped us gain a better grasp of the different stages which we were not fully aware of. She also helped us gain more confidence and feel more secure in making certain requests at the hospital. Lisa truly provided us with a class that we feel is helping us on our journey to becoming parents! We would highly recommend her and her classes!”
“A bunch of people have said to me, ‘I can't imagine being pregnant during a pandemic.’ Well, yes. Neither could I--and until it happened, I couldn't imagine what being pregnant was like, either. The single greatest thing that has helped prepare me for the birth of our child and walk me through pregnancy during a pandemic has been Lisa at Birth Matters NYC. First, I started listening to the Birth Matters Podcast out of curiosity. The podcast presents such a wide range of birth experiences and situations; not only was it informative to learn about a wide range of experiences, but the podcast also made me realize that there was so much more to think about concerning my labor experience and the birth of our child than I even realized. And the most recently featured stories of births in NYC during the COVID-19 pandemic have been particularly helpful as I anticipate my own pandemic birth experience. So my husband and I signed up for a 6-session class, which ended up being conducted online. The information we learned, practical applications we gained, and extensive resources we received for birth, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum wellness have helped ease my concerns of the great unknown and empowered me to approach this upcoming birth more confidently and expectantly. Lisa is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, open, and truly cares about each and every one of her students and their lives. I already miss these Wednesday and Thursday nights of class and wish I could just continue until the baby comes! If you or anyone you know is preparing for a birth, please check out her classes (available anywhere online) and her podcast.”
“Lisa's class was AMAZING!! My husband and I learned so much and we feel much more confident to welcome our baby girl in 10 weeks! She is very thorough in her class material and follow up assignments, and answers all questions with evidenced based research. Lisa is kindhearted and welcomed us all into her home with delicious snacks and a cozy environment. We are grateful to have found her before we step into the blessings of parenthood! I would totally recommend Lisa and Birth Matters to any expectant parents.”
“Lisa, we found your classes so useful! As first-time expectant parents (moving here pregnant from the UK) we were extremely nervous about the process of giving birth/postpartum care. However, after taking part in your 3-day intensive course we feel so much more ready to take on this journey into parenthood. Your teaching style is amazing and your knowledge is mind-blowing. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your beautiful home to learn.”
“I will definitely recommend you to any expectant couples we come across in the future. Not only do you provide a library of birthing and postpartum resources to read or watch or purchase from, but you possess an encyclopedic knowledge that is evident in your wonderful class.
I really like the clarity you provide about evidence-based practices, as well as your open-mindedness and acknowledgement of many emerging or promising practices. Also, I think we agree that is important to respect the expertise of clinicians but also realize their limitations. There is an enormous amount expertise outside of hospital and clinic walls, and it can be life-changing if we are open to it and realistic.
I learned so much and FEEL so much better as well. Your infectious enthusiasm and demystification of the birthing process and early parenting helped to decrease my anxiety and increase my anticipation. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher, kind person, and important resource.
Please keep doing what you do--it's a pretty important thing! It's hard to believe anyone does it better.”
“Ryan and I wanted to thank you again for such a fantastic birth class experience. We...had a very positive labor and delivery experience because we were armed with so much knowledge from your class.”
“I wanted to say how thankful we are for you and your class. We felt extremely prepared and ready for our birthing experience. I think overall taking part in your class helped us have a sense of empowerment that allowed us to go through the birthing experience and not only survive it but enjoy it (in as much as one can enjoy the laboring process). We truly feel like we wouldn't have changed a single thing of the areas we had influence and/or control over. We had a few curve balls...[but] we didn't stress about it as we had a deep bench of tools we could pull from to help us navigate the process. We knew when to push back and when to go along with the advice provided by our medical team, we felt comfortable making our hospital room our own and overall just had a good idea of what was coming and how to handle it. So thank you again for sharing your wisdom with us.”
“We just wanted to say thank you so much for all that you taught us and prepared us for. We cannot imagine going through what we went through without having gone through your course. You prepared us wonderfully for the many unexpected/uncontrollable variables of birth, delivery, and parenting! Thank you! The hospital staff was surprised how prepared/informed we were.”
“Special thanks to Lisa, on so many useful tips for before, during and after the delivery. You and your class rock.”
“The last item on our baby prep to-do list was to take a birth class to give us the confidence for our home birth. We could not have chosen a better childbirth educator! Lisa was warm and welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable on all things related to birth, post-partum, and new born care. This class was excellent to take as a couple as I felt my husband received acknowledgement and support throughout the course. He is so confident and prepared to be active during the birth of our son. I have already recommended this class to my expectant friends!”
“Lisa's class was warm, welcoming, and incredibly informative. Her knowledge and experience surpassed my expectations around childbirth and labor, especially on how to navigate the hospital experience. I felt myself engaged and taking notes throughout the entire class.”
“Lisa, thank you again for your guidance. Your class did much more than just inform Bobby and I, it also opened up a dialogue that we wouldn't have had otherwise. It truly changed our relationship for the better. It was the best takeaway, as relationships can fall on the wayside during this life changing event.”
“Lisa's class gave us so much more confidence going into the hospital. My baby was 8 days late and I had to be induced, but understanding all the options and typical cause-and-effect of certain procedures we were able to not have an epidural or c-section. I don't think I would have been able to make it through the delivery without having all that knowledge from her class.”
“Lisa was super welcoming, warm and informative. The classes are paced perfectly yet chock full of an incredible amount of information. We went in feeling "okay" about what we knew, but left feeling like we'd earned a diploma. Just an all around positive and amazing experience. Thank you!”
